Beach Day
Acrylic/Flashe Paint on Canvas
12 x 12 inches
I love this painting I made last summer, that conjures that on vacation feeling when the entire day revolves around going to the beach. Like so many of us, I’ve been going to the beach since I was a kid, and I seem to get more relaxed at the beach than anywhere else. It instantly shifts me away from the busy-ness of to-do-list life, and gives me perspective and expansion, where my mind and soul opens and awakens. Books and magazines that I read seem to sink in deeper, and new ideas magically appear and take root. ‘Filling the well’ is what Julia Cameron calls it and it is so necessary. There is something about that rhythm of summer beach living where everything is simple and flowing in balance, like the waves coming in and out. Summer at the Beach: where you live in bathing suits and bare feet and most meals are eaten outdoors, preferably after a swim in the sea, with the sun warming your skin and your toes in the sand. This painting takes me right back there, and reminds me that summer will be here again before we know it.
