ABOUT

Lisa Miller is a California-based artist whose paintings are inspired by beauty, nature and moments of transcendence in the human experience. She works primarily in oil on canvas, and water-based mediums on paper, and is at home painting both on-location outdoors ‘en plein air’, and in the studio using a combination of her own photographs, feelings and intuition as source material.

Through her work, Lisa endeavors to convey a feeling of awareness to a greater force in our lives, often experienced as ‘an awakening’. This experience of the transcendent is a universal truth that we can all identify with - regardless of we are individually on our life’s journeys – and it brings us closer to ourselves and each other. The overall effect of her art work is that of free-form expression, affirmation and liberation - one that provokes connection and inspires deeply personal introspection and spiritual growth.

“My intention is to create a painting that is akin to a spiritual experience. The artist, the divine creative spirit, and the viewer all meet at the painting. My paintings evoke an experience similar to when we take a moment in the day to gaze up at the sky while it slowly transforms in front of our eyes. Over time the painting will slowly reveal even more to you. And it will slow you down. We lead such busy lives, it is important to take time to let our souls catch up with us. My art invites us to do this. My paintings are a meditation.”

Lisa believes in the transformative power of art to touch the soul, uplift the spirit, and shine a light on the journey of life.

Her artwork has been exhibited and collected nationally and internationally and her paintings and writing have been featured in various print and online publications.

BACKGROUND

Having sketched, painted and ‘made things’ since she was very young, Lisa Miller’s life has centered around artistic expression and creativity. She holds a B.A. in Art History and Studio Art from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY where she also studied photography and philosophy. Upon graduation from college, she moved to Taos, New Mexico where she was profoundly influenced by her experience living amongst the art, culture and landscape of the Southwest. Over the past three decades, Lisa has worked in both curatorial and consulting capacities with selected art museums, private collections and galleries in New York, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Arizona, and she owned and operated a contemporary art gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona where she imported and exhibited international art from 1996 to 2012.

In 2014 Lisa founded Lisa Miller Studio, her creative atelier for making and exhibiting her own artwork, with a desire to explore the intersection where art meets spirituality. In 2017 she launched Cloud 10 her wellness brand featuring inspired art objects for creative living. Lisa writes a studio newsletter, The Portal, a collection of essays, inspiration and resources, where she shares her ideas about what she calls “conscious creative living”.
